Week of 9/8

I hope everyone got some good rest and had a fabulous weekend because we have an exciting and busy week ahead! 

Here's what we'll be working on this week:

Language Arts:
Story: How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Phonics: short vowels (review)

Strategy: Drawing Conclusions

Skill: Sequencing, dictionary guide words

Grammar: Complete sentences/nouns and verbs

Writing: Descriptive writing


Math:
We will be working with place value (SOL 3.1a). Students will learn how to identify, read, and write numbers in standard, expanded, and written forms up to the hundred thousands place (6-digit numbers). Students will also identify the place and value of each digit in a given number. There will be a quiz on Friday.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Students will meet with Mrs. King for Science on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mondays and Wednesdays they will stay with me for Social Studies. In Science, they will explore the unit on animal adaptations (SOL 3.4). Check out Mrs. King's blog for more information:

Social Studies:
We'll take a look at the difference between rules and laws and be able to explain the purpose of government, rules, and laws. (SOL 3.10) Students will also learn about America's basic principles (SOL 3.11a).

Important dates/reminders:
  • Next Wednesday, 9/17 is a 1:00 dismissal. We will eat lunch that day from 10:50 - 11:20. 
  • Remember that students need earbuds and $5 for the Scholastic News subscription.
