Week of 9/22

We have a busy week ahead! We are wrapping up PALS testing this week and we have Back to School Night on Tuesday!

Language Arts:
Story: Anthony Reynoso: Born to Rope

Phonics: Long e

Strategy: Author's Purpose

Skill: Main Idea

Grammar: Complete and varied sentences/nouns and verbs (continued/ongoing)

Writing: Descriptive writing/Super Learners (continued)

Math:
We've wrapped up place value and have moved on to rounding (3.1b). We'll be able to round whole numbers, 9,999 or less, to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand. Students will have a rounding quiz Wednesday, then we'll start comparing numbers (3.1c). Even though we have "moved on" from specific skills, we are continually reviewing all math skills in class with our math boards. Has your child told you about math boards yet? I'll talk more about them at Back to School Night.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Students will continue their study of adaptations and food chains. There will be a food chain/vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

Social Studies:
This week we are focusing on Diversity in America (SOL 3.12), and what unites us as Americans. Students will also review Thomas Jefferson since he wrote the Declaration of Independence. Students must know our basic rights and principles (right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - SOL 3.11a). Keep reviewing the Laws and Government and the Basic American Rights pages. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.

Important dates/reminders:
  • Remember that Fridays are spirit days at CAES, so students can wear our school colors - red/black/white!
  • Back to School Night is Tuesday at 7:00! I hope to see you there!
