Week of 10/5

Now that PALS testing is over, I am excited to really get into the "groove" of reading groups and our regular "Reading Jam"! I'll be discussing PALS data with you when we meet for a conference over the next two weeks. For those who didn't sign up for a conference at Back to School Night, I sent out a sign-up via Signup Genius. If you did not get that email, please email me if you'd like to schedule a conference.

A couple of reminders for the week:

  • Remember to send in Boxtops! =)
  • Interim reports will be issued on Wednesday.

Here's what we'll be working on this week:

Language Arts:
Reading Strategy: Drawing conclusions (review)
Skills: Character/plot, cause/effect, ways to spell long a and long o, prefixes
GrammarSubject/predicate

WritingDescriptive writing, editing/revising

Math:
We'll finish up our rounding unit and have a test that also includes comparing and ordering numbers on Tuesday (unless we don't have school Monday) - stay tuned to agenda for any changes. We'll begin working with addition and subtraction fact families (SOL 3.2). Some students still need to master their basic facts. Mastery of basic facts will help them with many math skills. There will be a fact families quiz on Friday.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
There will be an adaptations (SOL 3.4) quiz on Tuesday. Next, students will be studying food chains (SOL 3.5).

Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on rules and laws (SOL 3.10, 3.11, and 3.12) this week. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.
