Our class also gets huge kudos for being WINNERS for the third grade for the Boxtops contest!! Way to go saving and sending in all those Boxtops!!
It's a new quarter, so we will be setting new AR goals this week. We had many "goal-busters" in the first quarter and I know we'll have even more for the second quarter!
We have a busy week ahead with the CPAs (CheckPoint Assesments), the Book Fair, and Grand Lunch on Friday.
Here's a glimpse of what we'll be working on this week:
Language Arts:
Story: Tornado Alert
Phonics: Dipthong oo (review - stood vs. balloon), digraph /ou/
Strategy: Sequencing
Skills: Context clues, graphic sources
Grammar: Complete and varied sentences/nouns and verbs, (continued/ongoing)
Writing: Descriptive writing (continued)
Math:
We're still in review-mode for the CPA (CheckPoint Assessment), which is on Tuesday and Wednesday. We'll be doing a review on Monday, where students will be completing a packet with a partner, "teaching" each other and talking through strategies together. This packet is a GREAT review tool because it contains many SOL released test items. Please review this with your child Monday and Tuesday evenings.
On Thursday, we'll begin the much-anticipated concept of multiplication (SOLs 3.5 and 3.6). Please start having your child practice facts starting with the 2s. Flashcards are always available dollar stores, or your child can make them with index cards. If you would like some, I have plenty at school - just email me!

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Mrs. King is wrapping up habitats and all topics covered in the first quarter. She was very impressed with all the projects and they are on display in the library for the next few weeks. You can also see pictures of them and the kids working on her blog:
Social Studies:
We'll be going over the cumulative test that the children took last week, and then we will start a mini-unit on Veterans' Day (SOL 3.11c).
Important dates/reminders:
- Grand Lunch is Friday - we eat from 11:20 - 11:50.
