Week of 11/24

How is it Thanksgiving already? =) It will be a short but busy week in class! Remember we have a 2:20 dismissal on Wednesday. Our lunch is at regular time (11:20 - 12:50).

Here's a glimpse of what we'll be working on:

Language Arts:
We are not reading our weekly story or spelling list. We will be doing Thankgiving-related reading/comprehension/writing activities that review most skills we've covered in language arts.

Math:
We are moving right along with multiplication (SOLs 3.5 and 3.6). Students are doing well with all the strategies we've learned - arrays, equal groups, number line, skip-counting, repeated addition, and doubles (2s, 4s, 8s, 3s, and 6s). This week will be working on the 11s and 12s, as well as creating and solving multiplication word problems.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Student are continuing their study of the water cycle with Mrs. King this week (SOL 3.9).

Social Studies:
We have completed our study of the indian tribes (Powhatan, Lakota, and Pueblo). This week we will focus on the pilgrims, Chief Powhatan, and Thanksgiving. We'll have a test next week on the indians and what we cover this week.

Important dates/reminders:
  • The Ned assembly is tomorrow (Monday) - ask your child about who Ned is and what his message is all about!
  • 11/27 - 28 - Thanksgiving Break
  • 12/9 - Chorus concert, Interim reports issued
  • 12/17 - 1:00 dismissal
  • 12/19 - Polar Express Day - students wear pajamas to school!
  • 12/22 - 1/2 - Holiday Break
  • Remember that Fridays are spirit days at CAES, so students can wear our school colors - red/black/white.
