Week of 4/4

IMPORTANT DATES/REMINDERS: 
  • 4/11: McDonald's Spirit Night
  • Next Wed. and Thurs. 4/13 and 4/14 are 2:20 dismissal days. 
  • Thursday, 4/14 is the last day of the third quarter.
  • No school for students on Friday, 4/15 (Teacher Work Day). 
  • 4/18 - 4/22: Mock SOLs - more info. coming soon!
  • 4/28: Report cards issued
Here's what we'll be working on this week:
Language Arts:
Reading Strategy/skills: Determining importance, homophones (review), fact/opinion

Writing: compare/contrast, personal narrative, editing/revising (ongoing).

Math:
We'll begin our probability unit (SOL 3.18). Students will determine the probability of a certain event, determine all possible outcomes of a given situation (i.e. there are 3 food choices and 4 drink choices - how many different combinations can we make?) They'll also determine the likelihood of an event (impossible, unlikely, likely, equally likely, certain). There will be a quiz on Friday. 

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Mrs. King will continue her simple machines unit (SOL 3.2) this week. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.

Social Studies:
We're going to review all that we've learned about Ancient Greece and Rome and compare the two civilizations, then move on to the ancient civilization of Mali (SOL 3.1). Students should be able to identify physical and human characteristics, adaptations to their environment, and contributions to our modern society.
