Week of 4/11

Sorry for the late post...

We have lots going on in the next few weeks! Stay tuned to the agenda for important dates. =) I'm sure you've heard all the hype over Humphrey! He'll be making an appearance in our classroom very soon! If you follow our class on Twitter, you saw that the author, Betty G. Birney, tweeted to our class! I was happy to see that almost the entire class read the first chapter, so we're off to a fabulous start. We had a GREAT discussion that showed excellent thinking. There were some awesome questions and predictions!! Keep up the great work and enjoy the family reading time!

Next week, students will take the third quarter benchmark tests (CPAs) in Reading and Math. These are mirrored after the SOL tests, so we will enforce all SOL testing procedures, so these tests will be the "Mock SOL tests". Our class tests in the afternoons on testing days, so please avoid appointments/early dismissals Tuesday-Thursday next week.

See dates below for the state SOL testing!

IMPORTANT DATES/REMINDERS:
  • Wed. and Thurs. 4/13 and 4/14 are 2:20 dismissal days.
  • Thursday, 4/14 is the last day of the third quarter.

Language Arts:
Reading Strategy/skills: Predicting/Asking questions

Writing: Writing CPA

Math:
We've started lines, line segments, rays, and angles this week (SOL 3.15) and students seem to have the hang of it. There is a quiz on this tomorrow (Wed). Then we are in review mode in preparation for the CPA next week. Remember IXL is a GREAT resource to use to review previous skills such as place value, rounding, money, time, and temperature.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Mrs. King is reviewing all simple machines this week.

Social Studies:
We have wrapped up Mali with a quiz today, but will have the test on all three ancient civilizations (Greece, Rome, and Mali) on Thursday.
