Week of 9/21

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend!

I'm looking forward to a fun week of learning ahead.
For spelling, we will be starting word study soon. PALS testing starts tomorrow, so once that is complete, we will begin guided reading and word study groups. Until then, we will be working on whole-group spelling features, which are a review from second grade.

**REMEMBER 1:00 DISMISSAL ON WEDNESDAY.
Our lunch Wednesday is 11:00 - 11:30.**

Here's what we'll be working on this week:

Language Arts:
Reading Strategy: Drawing conclusions (ongoing)
Skills Cause and effect, CVCe long vowel pattern (make, line, etc), multiple-meaning words, ABC order (review)
GrammarNouns/verbs (review), statements vs. commands

WritingPrewriting, descriptive writing

Math:
We will review and wrap up our place value unit and have our assessment on Wednesday. Then we will move into rounding (SOL 3.1b). Students will learn to round whole numbers, 9,999 or less to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand. Ask your child about the C.U.B.A strategy! Students have the hang of our Math Jam session rotations now, so I will begin meeting with guided math groups this week.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Stay tuned to the agenda for what's coming up in Science this week! They will continue their study of physical adaptations for animals and plants this week (SOL 3.4).

Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on rules and laws (SOL 3.10, 3.11, and 3.12) this week. Students will be learning about the importance of government/rules/laws in our community, state, and country. They will also learn about our country's basic principles and rights, along with our diversity and what unites us as Americans. Students should review notes each night and understand the vocabulary. Stay tuned to the agenda for an upcoming quiz.
