Week of 2/2


Important Dates:
  • 2/3 - Individual student pictures (request only)

  • 2/13 - Valentine Exchange (see email for list of student names)
  • 2/16 - No school - Presidents' Day
  • 2/18 - 1:00 dismissal
  • 2/26 - Jump Rope for Heart Night - 5:30 - 7:30
Here's a glimpse of what we'll be working on this week:

Language Arts:

Story: Ananse's Feast

Phonics: Consonant blends

Strategy: Summarizing

Skills:  Synonyms, compare/contrast setting, characters, events


Grammar: Adjectives review


Math:
We've started our fractions unit (SOL 3.3). Students will learn how to identify and name fractional parts of a whole and of a set of objects. We're using lots of manipulatives to help understand this concept - ask your child about what we've been working on in class. There will be a fractions quiz on Friday. Remember to keep reviewing past skills on IXL! :) 

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Mrs. King is starting her investigations unit (SOL 3.1) this week. They are learning lots of new vocabulary and will be doing some fun experiments with her this week!

Social Studies:
In honor of Black History Month, we'll be studying contributions from Rosa Parks and Thurgood Marshall (3.11b) this week . There will be a famous americans quiz next week.
