Then we go to the Mariners' Museum on Friday!! Remember that permission and money are due by Tuesday. Also, please have your child wear red, if possible, on Friday.
Here's everything else that we'll be working on this week:
Language Arts:
Story: Allie's Basketball Dream
Phonics: Long i, long u
Strategy: Compare and contrast settings, characters and events
Skills: Cause and effect, sequencing, suffixes
Grammar: Complete and varied sentences/nouns and verbs (continued/ongoing)
Writing: Descriptive writing (continued)
Math:
We are moving on to 4-digit addition (quiz Tues.), then will be reviewing subtraction with regrouping (SOL 3.4). Subtraction across zeros is tricky for many students. Careful computation and checking are critical - lots of practice will benefit your child! There will be a subtraction quiz on Friday. IXL is a great resource for math practice and this can be done at home!
Science: (with Mrs. King)
Food chains are the focus this week! Be sure students review their IN notes nightly! Stay tuned to the agenda for upcoming quizzes/tests and/or check out Mrs. King's blog for further info:
Social Studies:
We are continuing our maps unit (SOL 3.5). Students will have to know the name, location, and physical shape of all seven continents. They will also be able to identify the five oceans and use the equator and prime meridian to identify all four hemispheres. This week we'll focus on using a grid system for finding specific locations on a map.
We'll also be able to identify Spain, England, and France (3.5c) and Ancient Greece, Rome, and Mali (3.4a). We'll study these places more in depth later this year, but for now, students just have to know the where to find these places on a map.
There will be a geography test next week, so keep studying those continents and oceans! :)
