Week of 3/7

Our class had great participation for Read Across America week last week - it's always fun to see the energy and excitement for Dr. Seuss. I was sad to have missed the symphony and Book Character Day on Thursday and Friday due to illness, but I heard both were amazing for the kids.

We are in for another awesome week of learning:

IMPORTANT DATES/REMINDERS:
  • Interim reports and red folders will come home Tuesday.
  • Remember to order a yearbook if you'd like one - orders are due by 3/17.
  • Grand Lunch is on Friday - remember to send in form that was sent home a couple of weeks ago if you have guests attending. =)
  • Book Fair opens Monday and runs until 3/17. Our preview day is Monday (3/7) so students can peruse and make a "wish list". Students can go to Book Fair after morning jobs are complete or after they finish their lunch.
  • Next Wednesday, 3/16 is a 1:00 dismissal day; lunch for our class that day is 10:50-11:20.
Here's what we'll be working on this week:
Language Arts:
Reading Strategy/skills: Questioning, Predicting, compare/contrast characters, settings, and events.

Writing: compare/contrast, editing/revising (ongoing)

Math:
We'll continue our measurement unit for customary and metric length, weight, and capacity (SOL 3.9). There will be a measurement test on Friday. Remember IXL is a great resource to use at home to practice all math skills! Login info is on inside cover of student agendas.

Science: (with Mrs. King)
Mrs. King will begin her matter unit (SOL 3.3) this week.

Social Studies:
We started our study of Ancient Greece last week (SOL 3.1). Students will be able to explain how the contributions of Ancient Greece have influenced us in terms of architecture, government, and sports. There will be a Greece test on Friday, then we'll move on to Ancient Rome next week.
