Week of 1/20

Happy Martin Luther King Day! In class last week, we discussed the work that MLK did to unite all of us. We are thankful for his example of great character and all that he did for civil rights.

I know the kids will be excited for Math Fest Tuesday night! Hope to see you there at 6:00! All participants get to make a Mathematician visor to wear in math class, as well as a 100% participation grade in my gradebook!

Important Dates/Notes:
  • 1/20 - Math Fest 6 - 7:30
  • 1/22-23 - Math benchmark test (CPA = checkpoint assessment, which is the "new name" for the benchmark tests)
  • 1/22-23 - 2:20 dismissal
  • 1/23 - end of second quarter
  • 1/26-27 - No school - teacher work days
  • 1/28-29 - Reading CPA
  • 1/30 - Social Studies CPA
  • 2/5 - Report cards issued
  • There are no spelling lists or stories from reading textbook for this week or next, due to testing.
  • Fundraiser packets went home Friday :)

Here's a glimpse of what we'll be working on this week:

Math:
We'll be doing lots of review leading up to the math CPA, which is Thursday and Friday. Keep reviewing at home with IXL and old tests/papers. Encourage your child to show work, label, show strategies, and to check their work.

Social Studies:
The CPA is next week (1/30). A study guide will come home this week; the test covers everything we've learned since the beginning of the year.
